A flash from the past..Moda Dea Cache...um, not sorry it's discontinued, but it served to try out a new pattern....
A felted hat pattern from the Cascade Yarn Co.
It was huge before I felted it...reached from the top of my head down to my shoulders.
Three rounds in the washing machine it came out just right, didn't help with the colors, but the pattern works well. The brim can be worn up...
or down....I've another on the needles now, can't wait to see how it turns out using worsted wool in purple.
Here in the jar are the makin's for pineapple vinegar. The scrap skin and core from a fresh pineapple will make vinegar good for using in salads and other recipes.
I found the tutorial over at down---to---earth. A really interesting blog by Rhonda with tips on earth friendly/frugal living. Go visit, you'll love her website. (The chirps don't knit, but they're always interested in what's going on in the kitchen.)
Have a great, warm week, Y'all!
I'm so glad you are still around :) Not buried in snow like we are up north? (or maybe you are...LOL)
ReplyDeleteLove your felted hat! That's the same yarn, but a different color that I made "B"'s hat with and I still have more. It felts well, but I bet the solid purple will be stunning, especially with your dark hair :)
Unfortunately my husbands had was not cashmere yarn, just the pattern. I used good old wool-ease which fits my pocketbook much better.
I've never heard of pineapple vinegar, Sounds interesting and good to not waste the scraps from a pineapple. Must remember to do that the next time we have a pineapple. You are always up to something :)
Take care and thanks for stopping by!
So glad to hear from you!! I love those coasters--went and checked out how to do them. And I think I could handle this!!
ReplyDeleteYour hat is so adorable!! I love hats, but unfortunately, I am not a hat person...put them on and then look and think...naaaaahhh!!
Have a wonderful day!!
Beth
Pineapple vinegar! That sounds SO exotic! I'm tempted to go over that tutorial and give it a try...
ReplyDeleteThat felted hat turned out well, I have never felted anything (I always think I will spoil the item after having spent so much time working on it). Another thing I have to learn from you!
Keep warm~
:-)
oh your hat turned out just beautiful I love it and the coasters are really cute too.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the red sky is beautiful too.
MMM pineapple YUMMY
Love the hat! I would have never thought about using Moda Dea for felting. In fact, I believe I put what I had left in the donation bag to Goodwill. :(
ReplyDeleteThe pineapple vinegar sounds like it'd be good. It's seeing posts like this that make me want to cook. My husband does most of the cooking around here.
Have I thanked you for posting the link to the coaster tutorial a few months back? I've made a couple of sets of these -- great fun!
The coasters are too cute! I'm definitely keeping that project in mind for future gifts.
ReplyDeleteThe hat is really cute!
Thank you for stopping by my blog today! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your felted hat. I know it takes patience to knit something big enough to felt. I've done a few things, thinking I was never going to finish!
I'm so glad to learn about the pineapple vinegar! I do read down-to-earth's blog fairly regularly (tho haven't been doing as much reading of any blogs lately), but guess I missed that. I'm anxious to give it a try.
Hi Tea,
ReplyDeleteHope you remember me! :) Your hat is very cute, and I am working on the same gathered scarf!! Hope your having a great start to your year!! :)
