Snow in the Foothills

Cades Cove Methodist Church in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. It was organized in the 1820s by circuit rider George Eakin.

Checking in - nothing like a winter storm to bring bloggers out of hiding, eh? 

These photos are from the last snowstorm a few weeks ago. Goodman and I have had a few rounds of fever, congestion and coughing since I took these pictures, but I think we're seeing the light at the end of that tunnel finally.

The wind was blowing so hard the day I took this one Mr. Cardinal was getting roughed up pretty good. We have about two inches of snow from the current storm...

Update with new photos: We got a total of eight inches of snow from what started yesterday, 2/12/14.  Love it...

The pasture is a white blanket.

I didn't walk all the way to the fence line - I used the zoom for this pic. Once I got to the barn I fed the chickens and headed back to the house, lol.

    Your snow photos and the wind-buffeted cardinal are all lovely, Toni. Hope you're on the mend....and that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train. :)

    Ha ha, I hope so too, Linda. It looks like that light might be the Snowball Express outside right now. We have 5 inches of beautiful snow and still coming down. That's a lot for us. Have a great evening.

    Wow, I have never lived in a snowy climate before so I am amazed every time I see some photos! I am sure Mr. Cardinal made a beautiful and stark contrast against the white landscape.

      It really is beautiful, but it gets old quickly with driving conditions being stressful. I can't get my car out of the driveway.

    Don't know how you did the falling snow effect in the first photo-but it had me going for a moment. Love the cardinal. Stay warm, lemon honey tea and rest. Get better soon!

      Hi Elaine, thanks! I just had a cup of mullein tea (to help break up the congestion) with honey and lemon. About the snow picture - google did that with a snow pic I had posted here last night and sent me a notice, so I put it in the blog post. I have no idea how to do it, otherwise.

    Love your photos! I'm sorry y'all have been under the weather but glad to know you're on the mend. We got snow! Not predicted. Four inches so far. That silly storm took a turn straight for us.

    Never heard of mullein tea. I'll have to look in to that.

    Fresh snow is always so lovely when it first falls-but the nice thing about living rural-we can usually stay put-lol stay warm all of you-hugs from the ozarks-we are finally getting a warm up here so mud everywhere as the snow and ice melts away

    Amazing!!! I can't even imagine how cold it must be there. I wish it snowed someday here (although I know I wouldn't get out from under the blankets)! I'm so envious right now. haha

    Do you think this snow made up for other winters of very little? I remember you saying you didn't get much... It sounds and looks like you have much enjoyment from its beauty.

    Your blog name caught my eye on TexWis's blog. My husband and I visited Cade's Cove on our honeymoon 21 years ago. Your photos sure are pretty. I live in GA and we have had snow this winter too. Glad to hear you both are feeling better. I'm signing on to follow. Mildred

    I miss your posts and am stopping by to wish you a wonderful weekend and Lord's Day! I hope you are well and thriving in the Lord :) My husband and son are spreading chicken manure fertilizer on the fields all today and it S.M.E.L.L.S out there! The rains should come tomorrow night and wash that stuff deep into the grasses and soil! Hopefully :) Blessings!
