Hello from the hills!
Double Pink Rose of Sharon |
I wanted to tell you about a very short shortcut (Thank you, Joybilie Farm, for the idea!) for making fresh sauerkraut if you don't like to bother with shredding cabbage. I didn't grow cabbage this year so I bought 4 bags of coleslaw mix (on sale, of course :) to make this half-gallon of probiotic rich kraut. I used this method for the fermentation process and let it ferment for four weeks.
We've indulged in lots of homegrown Rutger's tomatoes with our meals all month long.
There was a monumental traffic delay due to construction just yesterday in the GSMNP. So, if you're planning a trip to the Smokies soon go here and check the status of construction in the areas you'd like to visit.
My friend took a few pictures, and sent them to me so I'm adding them here.
This is an overlook on the Foothills Parkway.
And this one is a shot from Wears Valley Road in Townsend.
I love seeing the misty clouds hovering on the treetops.
Rosacea Update:
For the past two years I've tried a lot of things that didn't clear up the rash I had. On July 4th, just last month I talked with someone that had taken a supplement that cleared the rash so I decided to give it a try. I've been taking Dr. Gundry's Vital Reds supplement for the past month, and it has helped in reducing the degree of flushing and cleared nearly all the bumps I had experienced for the past two years. I'm also watching my carb intake, but that alone wasn't enough. I'm glad I heard of this product.
Flowering Spurge in the pasture:
Have a lovely week, y'all!

So glad you have found relief for your skin. Also, that's quite the traffic! Hope you had a ball once you got there:-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Locust. We had a great time jaunting around after the traffic cleared.
DeleteThat's interesting about the supplement...good to know! I can't wait to come back to the mountains! It's been a hot summer here and Fall is so beautiful there! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the improvements are completed before you visit. It was painful at best. ;)
DeleteLove your variety of images. I do like some fresh tomatoes, so yum! My mom used to make kraut in a crock on the back porch.
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you that you found something to help your skin!!

Thank you, Betty! The relief of no bumps on my face is sublime. Thank you for the link, too.
DeleteOh aren't fresh tomatoes, sublime????? All I can do this year, is enjoy looking at them, and making sure my husband has lots of them. Since the 6 teeth extraction, I have to eat only liquid or very soft foods. And I don't think the acid from the tomatoes, would be wise, at all.
ReplyDeleteBut I make sure he has his fresh tomatoes and picked-this-morning corn, from the Farm Stand.
Glad you are getting relief, with the Rosacea! Mine just 'went away' I guess. Don't really remember. All I have there, are tiny blood vessels, in that spot, beside my nose. And that awful flushing is not there. Still when I get hot, my whole faces flushes! But maybe, that is just me.
✨🌻✨
Hopefully, having to do without those tomatoes this year will make next year all the better. Thank you for stopping by, Wisps. :)
DeleteWhat a great tip to use the pre-cut coleslaw! I have used that in many recipes before but never thought of doing sauerkraut! I'm so excited to try that now.
ReplyDeleteHi Dianna! Glad you liked the coleslaw tip. I love a good shortcut these days myself. Thank you for stopping by. :)
DeleteYour state looks very beautiful, I love seeing your nature photos (thanks to you friend for allowing you to share hers with us too!). I never tried sauerkraut before but you got me curious so maybe I'll try your recipe when cabbages are in season again. :-)
ReplyDeleteYay for rainy days at the end of the summer!
Thank you, Alhana! I hope you like making sauerkraut. The flavor is a little sharp like all fermented foods. I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat post on 'My Corner of the World' this week! Thanks for linking up!

Your welcome, Betty. :)
DeleteHello, there seems to be traffic jams in all the national parks. I hope your visitor enjoyed the park. I am glad the Vitals Reds has helped you. I have used the coleslaw mix, it comes in handy! The flowers and views are all beautiful! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI had never seen the Smokies so jam-packed, but then we rarely go on a week leading up to a holiday. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteThank you for the sauerkraut recipe, Toni.
ReplyDeleteOnce I tried making sauerkraut but it was way too salty. I’m going to wait til winter and try again.
It’s good that supplement is helping your rash.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, Nil!
DeleteI hope the recipe turns out to your liking. ;)
That sauerkraut recipe sounds great. The tomatoes look so delicious, I would love a tomato sandwich. As fall approaches, traffic will fill the Smoky Mountains. Hope you have a wonderful fall.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for making sauerkraut! And your tomatoes are doing so well; I've had to buy mine from the Amish produce auction! Prayers for healing of your rosacea.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Marqueta
I'm just catching up on several posts!! I have been missing out! I soo enjoyed seeing the Smokies pictures. I grew up going to the Smokies EVERY year on vacation but haven't really been in the last LOTSA years since marriage. So it was fun to see that it's still as I remembered it...although maybe a little more crowded.
