Blackberry Winter

Last week's little chill was evidently just a precursor to cooler weather for us this week. Early morning temps here this morning were in the low 40s and even colder in the mountains. I sneaked and turned the heat on...TVA beware! Oh yes, those heating bills are costing us a fortune these days. These blackberry blossoms will become tasty berries in just a few months. Don Juan..a charmer of a rose. I bought this eighteenth century styled bird bottle at the pottery factory near Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia about ten years ago and hung it on the deck facing the morning sun, but in all that time I've never had a bird nest in it. Sigh. The crochet shawl (Bernat Handicrafter pattern Style No. 2343-220) is coming along, albeit slowly. I've made mistakes and had to rip back to correct them. This picture is current this morning, but I just found a mistake eight rows back, so I'll be ripping back again over a skein of yarn to correct it. Crocheting is faster than knitting, but correcting mistakes is deadly to progress since you have to ravel all the way back to where the mistake is to fix it. (I hope to be perfect and not make any mistakes someday...chuckles.)Lettuce just be glad there's forgiveness for our mistakes.
Have a great week, Y'all!

  2. I LOVE the shawl. Thank you for telling us what pattern it is.

I made one of your Gemstone Doilies the same night that I printed out your pattern. Really enjoyed it and will make it again in a nicer yarn. I used Peaches and Creme and it will make a nice hot pad but I want something else to use for one for under my tea pot. You also post great links to dish/face cloth patterns.

Majacraft has beautiful wood in their wheels. I originally wanted one but they work so well I couldn't get them to spin slow enough for me when I first started spinning. Now I have a Fricke with a Journey Wheel on order and a desire for a traditional wheel that could be used at living history demos so I guess I'll never have a Majacraft.

  5. The shawl looks so beautiful! I don't like to make mistakes either. HA!

I planted raspberries this year. The brochure says they will produce this year because they're older plants. We'll see. :-) I'd love to have some blackberries. My Granny used to can them. I've had many a bowl of canned blackberries with sugar and milk for breakfast as a child. Mmmm mmmm good!

    Have a great week!

  7. I keep coming back to look at Don Juan. I've not had roses except for a few years ago, I planted a knock-out rose. It's done wonderfully but it also requires no upkeep. Are roses difficult to grow?
