Li'l Visit To My Great Smoky Mountains

We went on a day trip in the Smokies last week and visited a few places we don't see often.
We actually wanted to show off Clingman's Dome to one of my sisters, but the road was closed so we went on toward the North Carolina side of the Smokies.
This pool of water flows icy cold from Mingus Creek. In 1872 part of it was routed......through a wooden flume to power the newly built Mingus Mill. I was enthralled by the flume, such crafty work!I won't tell you everything about it because it's an interesting place to see for yourself when your visiting the Great Smoky Mountains.
Just a peek inside the mill at the flour bolter.A few of you have mentioned that you'd like to see more pictures of our mountains, and I'm pleased as punch to comply. :)
There's a different view from every angle of the lens. One of my favorites from our trip. (Click for a bigger pic, y'all.)
If you missed the Good Fences offering in this post check out the second photo from the top. ;)

  2. SIGH..........
    :)

I'm so happy you got to visit my blog. Now that you know where I am don't be a stranger.
Townsend!!!!! I'm sooo jealous. When I was kid Mom and Dad looked at some property out there..way before it built up to the way it is now... but it was the early 70's
and they weren't sure. LOL..everytime we go down they could kick their selves. I remember an old camp with a lake we drove by several times back off the main road...Laurel? I think it's become a log home community, but anyway when the movie Friday the 13th came out I saw the place they filmed the movie and I could swear that was the same place.
We usually stay out on 40 at the Ramada Express and drive thru the back way to you all and on to Cades Cove. (I have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Knoxville so it central to everywhere we go)I love the drive from Rich Mtn Rd back to there.
Well, I better get back to work..the flower arrangements won't put themselves together.
SIGH.....I can just smell that air and hear the water rushin...oohhhh

  5. Howdy, Mum. I see the mountains were quite smoky, that day. I think the second and third mountain pictures from the bottom were my favorites. Fraught with drama, you know. Especially the next to last one.

  6. Enjoy your photos! Several years ago on the way back to the Midwest from a NC/SC visit, my sister & I drove through the Smokies and then up to Greene Co TN where my dad's family lived in the 1800s. We both commented that the area just "felt like home." So your photos made me "homesick"! :-)

  10. My hubby and I keep talking about taking a trip east, so I can see the Smokies. He's been there many times on his business travels, but never to simply sightsee, and I've never been there. His 'people' come from the Kentucky area, so we could visit some old cemetaries, as well as civil war sites while in that part of the country. Your pictures have renewed my determination to make that trip happen!

  19. Wow how beautiful an area. I used to love to visit the different areas around Tennesse when I traveled to visit my daughter in Big Rock Tennesse.
I thought it was kinda neat to be able to say I went to Paris when I visited her. Beautiful state for sure.
