Finely Feathered Friends

We've had a few frosty mornings lately when I've found groups of birds waiting on the deck rail for their daily ration.
Mourning Doves
It's every bird for themselves once I put the seeds out and go back in the house.
Blue Jays staking their claim.

Cardinal & Blue Jay (back)
Sometimes the scramble for food is too rough on the top rail..
Eastern Towhee
It's much safer just to wait on the seat for seeds that fall in all the commotion.
Eastern Towhee
Sometimes feathers look exactly like fur. o.O
Gray Squirrel
If he wasn't so cute I'd shoo him away.
Piggy Gray Squirrel & Red-bellied Woodpecker (back)
Well, I've made six Mt. LeConte scarves, and I think that's enough crocheting for awhile.   You know it's all about the fun of making them, right?  Getting to wear what you make is just a bonus.   Meanwhile, I find I've made too many, and I've not done a giveaway in several years so I'm doing a very quick one this week.  I'm giving away the cranberry colored scarf so if you'd like a chance to have it for your own just leave a comment stating the name of your favorite bird.  It can be any bird you've seen.  The winner will be chosen Tuesday evening and notified by email.  Be sure I can contact you if you enter. A big "Thank you!" to all who have visited my blog all year long.  Your friendship and comments have been a blessing.  :)

Wishin'  y'all a peaceful season of celebrating our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  1. Hmmm... not sure if the favorite bird is one from the picture or one from the kingdom of birds. I think it might be the latter. If so, a peregrine falcon by all means. Thank you for offering the scarf! What a neat giveaway-- to have an authentic "Toni" piece :)

  2. Hello, what a wonderful variety of pretty birds. I love them all. I love your scarves too and would love a chance to win. My favorite bird is the Towhee.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  3. I love to watch the birds compete for the seed! We have a red cardinal mom and dad that come regularly and each spring, I see their babies. And yes, the squirrels come too. Have a blessed day.

  4. Something about mourning doves appears so serene. Beautiful picture of them. But my favorite bird is the little Ruby-crowned kinglet. One has taken up residence in our bottle birdhouse and she's so much fun to watch. She's very industrious and such a wonderful brave little mama. Although she's just a mite bigger than a hummingbird, she'll get down on the ground and squawk at the strays to stay away from her babies. We all just love her!

    Have a merry Christmas!

  5. Mourning doves!! I have always loved them since I was a child. I love their call, I love that they are still here in MN eating seed while most of the other birds have flown away, I love that they happily eat the seed on the ground that the other birds knock down ;)

  6. Lovely post! We have many "birds" with feather too...lol! I love all the birds but my favorite bird would have to be that beautiful cardinal! Your scarves are just stunning and I would to be included in your giveaway! Merry Christmas!

  8. What a beautiful giveaway that happens to be in my favorite color! My favorite bird is the sparrow. One sits on my back porch railing every morning and sings for me. I look out the back door with coffee or tea in hand listening until he leaves. He's done this every single morning since late Spring. It makes me happy. He has missed a few mornings with the cold rain that has made its way to the hollow.

  9. It's always a pleasure to visit your blog and enjoy your pictures. Of course we don't have blue jays, cardinals nor towhees here so I'm delighted you shared them. But my favourite is the furry one! What can I say, he's a smart boy. ;-)

Stay warm and have a nice Christmas with your family.
    Love ♥

  13. We also feed the birds but we have to trap the raccoons and groundhogs to keep the seed for the birds. We only have the Eastern toowee in the Spring. I saved the pattern for the scarf and will try to attempt it but to win one with your lovely buttons also in my favorite color. Now that would be an awesome way to end 2015. We love your post.

  15. Wow, T! You have all the kinds of birds I love there! What a variety. I love so many diff kinds of birds, but as to birds I've actually seen, it'd have to be a peacock or a cockatoo. I really like the scarves you made and the handmade buttons make them ever cooler. God bless you and Goodman and your whole family this Christmas and always.
