First Snow and Angioplasty

Hello from our snow covered hills!
Winter is on y'all!  (I know, not quite.)  It's been a long, long time since we had snow before Thanksgiving, and it'll be gone in a few days, but for now I'll take it. I love snow. ♥
That's not a mirage behind our pasture fence.  A neighbor's farm was sold and subdivided a few years ago.   It's sad for us because when we bought our place the hill was covered with 35 beef cattle.   Now there are that many houses.  Times change, they do.
We got a total of 2.5 inches of snow and very frigid temps, for us anyways.  It's a bit odd to see snow on trees that haven't dropped their leaves, yet.  o.O

My mother-in-law was the kindest person on earth and is very much missed by her family.  Her story is a bit painful to recall, but here it is.  She had a scary episode of chest pain along with shortness of breath and was transported to the local hospital.  The small town hospital released her with no real diagnosis (imagine that) so the family arranged for her to go to the best hospital in the big city nearest her small town for testing.  An angioplasty was ordered and the family remained hopeful she would return home better off then when she went.  That didn't happen.  She had a major, life-changing stroke DURING the angioplasty procedure.  She spent weeks in the hospital then months in a therapy center recovering from the stroke.  Her heart condition took a back burner while she learned to speak, feed herself and walk all over again.   She never fully recovered, and one year after the angioplasty she died due to complications from the stroke.

A good friend of mine worked for a group of heart specialists at the time and kept close tabs on the situation with my mother-in-law.  She informed me that strokes were very common during an angioplasty procedure.   What?  Then why do they do them?  I think we all know the answer to that question.
Eat healthy and exercise regularly, dear readers.

Stuffed peppers smothered with mozzarella cheese.  Goodman and I eat dishes like this very sparingly these days.  Just sayin'.

Have a great week, y'all!

  1. Hello,

We were supposed to get some snow today, we had only rain this morning. Healthy eating and exercise is very important. I heard stents can be a real problem, one hospital was being sued for placing unnecessary stents. The stuffed peppers do look yummy. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great week ahead.

    1. I'm glad people are waking up to the fact that lots of surgeries are not necessary. Good for the folks that are suing because of them.

    3. Thank you, Eileen, I only shared it in the hope that others will ask questions and make informed decisions with their loved ones. We can't be too careful. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I meant to comment on the beauty of those glass pumpkins, but I think I forgot...where is my head! Meanwhile, I had never heard this about stents and I've know a couple people who had the procedure and were okay. Very sorry for your MIL. We both work hard at getting in our exercise and eating our veggies every day. Maintenance is important.

    1. Hi Jocelyn! You're right, daily maintenance is important and may keep us out of the hospital all together.

  3. So sorry to hear your mother-in-law's story. Also, a subdivision, oy! Perhaps each yard can host a cow:-)

    1. The only problem with the houses on the hill is there's not enough grass in their tiny yards to feed any animals, but that's what they want so there you go. For myself, I'd love to move. We'll see...

  4. I'm finally checking in and caught up on the last 3 posts! Love that antique blue tablecloth and your glass pumpkins! And... all that snow!!! 2+ inches is definitely more than flurries! It does seem quite early....but I would take it! Love snow that strands us inside so we can sew...mostly love it on weekends though LOL!
Thanks for your mother-in-law story...I didn't know that about strokes and angioplasty. I'm not a flu-shot person either!

    1. The snow is still lingering and a bit of a shock, but we love it. I need to sew, too.

    1. Hi Michelle! I think Texas and Tenn. both have rollercoaster style weather especially this time of year. Glad you like the photos. :)

    2. I'm in Tennessee and normally it is a rollercoaster style weather pattern except for this year. We went from the very top (75 degrees) to the bottom (25 degrees) in one day. It has stayed cold and rainy since then. Even the erratic is no longer dependable.
Love the cartoon. It reminds me of some of the people I know.
Sorry about your mother-in-law. That had to be difficult.

  6. So sad to read about your mother-in-law. We must be extra careful whenever we pay a visit to the doctor!
The views from your yard are breathtaking. It's been more than 20 years since I last saw snow! The northern mountains in Spain are also covered in white, seems like this year snow decided to come a bit earlier. Anyway, enjoy it as much as you can before it melts. :-)
    Stay warm!

    1. Thank you, Alhana. We are loving the snow. Our dogs eat it like it's food. Very funny. Yes, we have to be diligent when it comes to what kind of healthcare we receive.
