Gypsy Birds

Our birding adventures continue right from the kitchen window with this flock of Cedar Waxwings. The bird books say they don't stay long in any one spot so we were glad we noticed them when they were in the area.
They stopped off in their wanderings to get a drink of water in our birdbath. Note the yellow tips on their tails and yellow backsides.
They preened for a while in the sugar maples then moved on to wherever, but Goodman and I did enjoy seeing them and felt good about providing a good stopping place for them.
I've begun another quilt that will be a bit bigger than the first one, somewhere between full and queen size.
This time I'm trying to piece an easy, well-known quilt pattern. I'm still learning about colors and everything to do with quilting really so I don't know how well it will look when finished. I'm thinking I've made a bit of a mistake with the purple fabric with yellow splotches, even if I do like it. We'll see how it turns out. This time I'm planning to try stippling the quilting part.

Have a great week, Y'all!

  4. The fabrics you are using in your quilt are lovely. I like how the colors progress from one to the other so nicely...even the splotched one!

You were very lucky to witness the waxwings' stop over :) Spring is getting closer...I can feel it in my bones :)

  5. I love your quilt O.O

I haven't yet figured out where you made a mistake in the color progression. I think the "loud" colors just make it even more awesome.. Wanna make my nine-patch for me? The hair on the back of my neck stands up when I think about cutting the squares O.o

Why do cedar waxwings make me think of little samurai warriors?

Have you decided to stay in TN?

  8. In the 19 years we've lived in our house, I've only spotted cedar waxwings in our yard 3 times. I saw one in a backyard tree shortly after we moved in here. I stepped out front just in time to see a flock flying into one of our front yard trees a few years ago. Last week, I again stepped out front just in time to see a flock fly into that same tree. I get ridiculously excited over such occurrences, just as when I see a flock of geese flying overhead, north or south.

  9. They're beautiful - I've heard of Cedar Waxwings but don't think I've ever seen one. What an amazing Creator!
DH did find a little fruit bat nesting on the outside of our chimney.

Your quilt is wondie - you are really "goin' to town" with this quilt-making business!
My sister's M-I-L makes 1 quilt ea Christmas for some lucky family member. I think that's such a cool idea.
