Ravelry, Rain, Smoky Mountain Spinnery & Turnip Greens

Alas, I've been in Ravelry about two weeks. It's big, very big. Sufficient is the description is all I have time to say about it today.

We got some very refreshing rain this week. Thank the Lord! \O/ We needed it badly.
(Note the drops of rain on the turnip greens below. :)

Ain't it purty..I got this beautiful yarn a few months ago, and I thought I'd share the picture since I had it loaded for my Stash folder in Ravelry. Consider it the "flower" of the week pic. ;)

I've been asked several times if there were any yarn stores in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, so I'm a-tellin' y'all, happily, there is a lovely little shop in Gatlinburg called Smoky Mountain Spinnery. The owner is helpful and pleasant. Here's the address and a pic of the store:
456 Brookside Village Way
Gatlinburg, TN 37738
(865) 436-9080
Actually, I got the yarn pictured above at the Spinnery. If you get a chance to visit the shop check out the owner's cash register. It's a beauty from bygone days. Here's a picture of the back of the shop which is in the back of Winery Square, not visible from the main road. Call ahead for directions, Y'all. They're ready! My turnip greens are finally ready to be picked and eaten. I can see these on my plate; all cooked & seasoned & gone in a heartbeat. :) Have a great weekend, Y'all. :)

  1. Really nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
When you have time do come see my thrifty guestroom post for Wed. Oct. 17. [I started it last Wed. but finished it on Sunday so it got lost in the order of things.]

  2. You're so right...Ravelry is big. So far all I've managed to do is find more things for my "to-do" list. lol
Love the yarn...awesome colors. I need to drive up and visit your yarn store. Gatlinburg isn't so far from here and it's been a long time since we've visited there.
Turnip greens...all I can say is YUMMY!

  3. Very luscious yarn! Lucky you having such a nice shop close by...but I bet very tempting too :)

  4. So, how do you cook your turnip greens and where can i buy some seeds? Can i do indoor pots over the winter?

  5. I love the yarn, it reminds me of the rain :-) I have three skeins of the Ann Shaffer yarn.

  6. Thanks for posting info. on the Gatlinburg shop. I can't wait to visit it -- definitely on my list when I get there in a couple of weeks.

  7. Howdy, Mrs. B.,
I just wash the cut turnip greens and boil them on medium for about an hour, more or less; then slather them with salt and bacon grease. (slurp!)

I buy the seeds from the local farmer's co-op. I really don't think you could get enough with indoor pots to make it worth the trouble since they cook down to a fraction of their just-picked volume. However, Walmart does carry them already washed & in cello bags in their vegetable isle. They're good, Y'all!

  8. Yumm...fresh greens! The yarn is really awesome!

  9. What beautiful yarn you have there! The colorway is gorgeous... Wish I lived closer to that yarn shop. I could spend a whole afternoon just browsing through a well stocked yarn store...yep all afternoon. :o) Enjoy your new yarn, cannot wait to see what you will do with it...

  10. I am still learning my way around ravelry. A lot to look at! Them turnip greens look mighty good!
My granny used to call it "a mess of greens" (vague measuring term
    for a quantity of produce)

  11. What is your name on Ravelry...I accidentally deleted some names and I think I might have deleted yours.

  12. Thanks for the info. on The Spinnery. I stopped in this weekend and bought more yarn for yet another project added to the "to do" list. It was a great little shop and my husband enjoyed the fishing shop adjacent to it.

  13. Thanks for the info about the Spinnery! I visited in late October and found the owner to be very friendly. I also found the yarn to be wonderful and purchased accordingly. ha I'll definitely go again when I visit the area in April! (There's also a great jam/jelly store and a smoked BBQ joint next door. mmmm)

  14. Who knows where to download XRumer 5.0 Palladium?
